Privacy Policy

Effective: 8 July 2026

Draft pending legal review. This policy has been prepared for compliance with the Jamaica Data Protection Act, 2020 and is under review by our attorneys.

1. Who we are

Compare JA (“we”, “us”) operates this website, an independent comparison platform for Jamaican financial products — insurance, credit cards, loans, mortgages, savings accounts, and foreign-exchange rates. For the purposes of the Data Protection Act, 2020(the “DPA”), we are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us at hello@comparejamaica.com.

2. What we collect

We collect only what the service needs:

  • Quote-request (lead) details — your name, email address, and optionally your phone number, when you ask to be contacted about a product.
  • Account details — email address, password (stored only as a cryptographic hash), and optionally your name and phone number, if you register.
  • Comparison inputs — figures you enter into our quote forms and calculators (e.g. income, vehicle value, driving history). These are used in your browser and our servers to compute results; they are not stored against your identity unless you save them to an account.
  • Usage data — privacy-friendly, cookie-less page analytics, and a record of outbound clicks to provider websites (which provider was clicked and from which page — not who clicked).

3. How we use it

  • To compute and show you indicative comparisons and estimates.
  • To pass your quote request to the specific provider or licensed broker you selected — this happens only when you submit a lead form, and the form says so.
  • To operate, secure, and improve the platform.
  • To measure aggregate referral volumes to providers.

Our lawful bases under the DPA are your consent (lead forms, accounts) and our legitimate interestsin operating and securing the platform. We do not sell personal data, and we do not use it for automated decisions with legal effect. Estimates shown on this site (e.g. “approval likelihood”) are indicative comparisons, not credit decisions.

4. Who we share it with

  • The provider or broker you choose — when you submit a quote request.
  • Our processors — Vercel (hosting), Neon (database), and Resend (transactional email), each processing data on our documented instructions.

Some processors store data outside Jamaica. Where they do, we rely on their contractual data-protection commitments as required by the DPA’s transfer provisions.

5. Retention

Lead records are kept while relevant to servicing your request and demonstrating referral activity, then deleted or anonymised. Account data is kept until you delete your account. Aggregate click statistics contain no personal data and are kept indefinitely.

6. Your rights

Under the DPA you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you;
  • have inaccurate data corrected;
  • have your data erased where we no longer have grounds to keep it;
  • object to or restrict certain processing;
  • withdraw consent at any time (this does not affect prior processing).

To exercise any of these, email hello@comparejamaica.com. You may also complain to the Office of the Information Commissioner (Jamaica), the DPA supervisory authority.

7. Cookies and analytics

We use a session cookie only if you sign in (to keep you signed in). Our analytics (Vercel Web Analytics) is cookie-less and does not track you across sites. We do not use advertising cookies.

8. Security

Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest by our database provider. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. Access to production systems is restricted and credentialed.

9. Changes

We will post any changes to this policy on this page and update the effective date above. Material changes affecting how we use lead or account data will be flagged prominently on the site.
